Tamara Stefanovich is captivating audiences worldwide with her highly elaborated recital programmes, as chamber musician or soloist with the world’s leading orchestras. Being passionate about a braod repertoire from Bach to the contemporary, she has performed with the Cleveland Orchestra, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, London Symphony and Philharmonic Orchestras, Chamber Orchestra of Europe, Bamberger Symphoniker and Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen amongst others. Stefanovich performs at the world’s major concert venues including Suntory Hall Tokyo and London’s Royal Albert and Wigmore Halls. She features in international festivals such as La Roque d’Antheron, Salzburger Festspiele and Beethovenfest Bonn. In the current season Stefanovich will perform at Musikfest Berlin, Muziekgebouw Amsterdam and in duo recital at Musikfest Herrenhausen.

    Tamara came to America from the Ukraine as a child and attended school in New York. After singing in Russian restaurants and making some minor appearances in Broadway shows she finally tasted success in the1933 operetta, Roberta, in which she sang the show’s most winning tune, “Smoke Gets in Your Eyes,” with Leo Reisman’s Orchestra.

    She had a night club act in 1936 before returning to Broadway in a show that flopped but introduced “I’ll Be Seeing You” and “I Can Dream, Can’t I?” Later that same year she also introduced “Get Out of Town” in Cole Porter’s Leave It to Me (1938).

    Tamara died prematurely in the crash of the Yankee Clipper in Portugal which was also carrying singer Jane Froman on her way to entertain troops. Froman survived and her story was told in the film With a Song in My Heart (1952).

    Tamara was born in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. When she was 18 years old, she relocated to Brighton, United Kingdom, in order to study at the University of Brighton. There, she earned her diploma in Masters of Pharmacy. She eventually gave up this profession and devoted herself to fashion.[1][2][3]
