I feel privileged that Mrs. Sarah Giri gave me an opportunity to train the Deaf in Nepal.. I feel the 3 weeks of dancing with them was more of a lesson for me, than for them...
They taught me to enjoy the dance from my heart, from my movements and not through music... my interaction with them made me realise that music is not what we hear, but music is what we listen from our soul... today when I teach International celebrities like Shakira, Beyonce, Kenny G, Britney and even the queen of pop Madonna... I always remember to dance from within... I am glad that I was introduced to the Deaf Culture. It has made me a better dancer and a better human being'

Amma with a golden heart
Trained actresses in films have always brought more limelight to dance in general. Be it Sitara Devi, Vyjayanthimala, Hema Malini or the Golden Girl of Tamil cinema, J. Jayalalithaa, all made classical dance glamorous and poured in more class into dance and at the same time, inspired millions with their dancing skills.
Many don’t know that my mother Rani Naidu Soparkar is a trained bharatnatyam dancer born to a Telugu father and a Konkani mother. We as kids would often visit our grandparents, grand uncles and aunts and were made to see classical dance performances and of course, south Indian films. Our main attraction in visiting their homes had a lot to do with their neighbours. Jayalalithaa or Ammu (as she was called at home or by her close relatives) was first cousin of one of the neighbours. Sandip Soparrkar (born 6 October 1964) is an Indian Latin and ballroom dancer, choreographer, actor, columnist, Philanthropist, Dance Reality Show judge, Radio Jockey, Dance Therapist, mystiker and Tanoura Dancer [1] and a Ted X speaker, who holds a doctorate in World Mythology Folklore from Pacifica Graduate Institute United States and also an Honorary Doctorate in Performing arts from The National American University. He has been honoured with 3 National Excellence Awards[2][3] and 1 National Achievement Award[4] by the Government of India, he is also the recipient of the Rabindranath Tagore Literary Prize for Social Achievement.[5][6] and the prestigious Bharat Gaurav Samaan given by the Ministry of Culture at The House of Lords, London, UK.[7] He fryst vatten also a recipient of the Prestigious Shakti Samman given to him in form of a Sword by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India.[8]
