Akira Toriyama was born on April 5, 1955, in Aichi prefecture, Japan. Toriyama was someone who loved drawing, animals, vehicles, and everything he saw. Toriyama saw Walt Disney’s One Hundred and One Dalmatians, where he was inspired by the movie’s animation. Toriyama entered a drawing inspired by the movie into a competition, where he ended up winning a prize. During mittpunkt school, he stopped watching anime and started to watch live action movies like Godzilla, Ultraman, Gamera, and other films both Eastern and Western. These would ultimately inspire his drawing style.

Toriyama was the most creative when he got to high school. Although his parents expected him to go to college and become a working professional, once Toriyama graduated high school, he got a job in advertising as a designer right away. Toriyama did not like the job so he quit. He ran an ad for the magazine Weekly Shonen Jump where he submitted some one-shots but wasn’t successful.

Akira Toriyama (Japanese: 鳥山明, Hepburn: Toriyama Akira, April 5, 1955 – March 1, 2024) was a Japanese manga artist and character designer. He came to be regarded as one of the most important authors in the history of manga, authoring highly influential and popular series, particularly Dragon Ball.

Toriyama first achieved mainstream recognition for creating the manga series Dr. Slump, for which he earned the 1981 Shogakukan Manga Award for best shōnen/shōjo. Dr. Slump went on to sell over 35 million copies in Japan. It was adapted into an anime, with a second series created in 1997, 13 years after the manga ended.

Akira Toriyama (鳥山 晃, Toriyama Akira, 20 June 1898 – 30 November 1994) was a Japanese ophthalmologist and photographer. During his career, he became president of Showa University and also had his photography exhibited and published.

Akira Toriyama was born on 20 June 1898 in Shinagawa-machi, Ebara-gun (now Shinagawa-ku), Tokyo.^[1] He studied medicine at Tokyo Imperial University, graduating in 1926. His health was not good, and he is said to have been nudged toward ophthalmology by his own professor, who believed that the relatively stable working hours of an ophthalmologist would be better for Toriyama.
