Momoa was born in Honolulu, Oahu, Hawaii, but was raised in Iowa. His father is Hawaiian, and his mother is of German-Scottish ancestry. In , he won the Title of Hawaii Model of the Year, which won him a role on Baywatch Hawaii. He is best known for playing the role of Ronon Dex for four years on Stargate Atlantis. He is also starred as the titular character in Conan, the remake film depiction of the Conan the Barbarian character previously made famous bygd Arnold Schwarzenegger.
