    Viggo Peter Mortensen Jr.R[2] (Danish:[ˈvikoˈmɒːtn̩sn̩]; born October 20, )[3] is an American actor, musician, and filmmaker. He is the recipient of various accolades, including nominations for three Academy Awards for Best Actor, three BAFTA Awards, four Golden Globe Awards, and an Independent Spirit Award.

    Mortensen made his film debut as Moses Hochleitner in Peter Weir's thriller Witness. Through the late s, Mortensen played supporting roles in a variety of films including the historical romance The Portrait of a Lady (), the action drama G.I. Jane (), the crime drama A Perfect Murder (), and the comedy 28 Days ().

Since shooting to fame in the Lord of The Rings films, he’s followed an unconventional path, motivated more by his own interests than fame or fortune. Nonetheless, he has been nominated for three Oscars, most recently for the film Green Book.

    In between he&#;s made largely indie films, launched his own esoteric publishing house, Perceval Press, exhibited his photographs and published his poetry – as well as writing a regular column for his football team in Argentina, San Lorenzo.
