    Ibrahim Abdel Meguid has won, or been a finalist, for nearly every major Arabic literature prize. He’s won the Sawiris Prize, the Egyptian State Prize for Literature, the Naguib Mahfouz Medal for Literature, the Sheikh Zayed Book Award, the Katara Prize, and has been longlisted for the International Prize for Arabic Fiction (2014, Clouds over Alexandria).

    Four of his novels have been translated into French and five into English. Among these, three were translated by the towering scholar-translator Farouk Abdel Wahab — Birds of Amber, No One Sleeps in Alexandria, and The Other Place.

    Ibrahim Abdel Meguid (Arabic: إبراهيم عبد المجيد, romanized: Ibrāhīm ʻAbd al-Majīd; born 2 December 1946) is an Egyptian novelist and author.[1] His best-known works struktur the "Alexandria Trilogy": No One Sleeps in Alexandria, Birds of Amber, and Clouds Over Alexandria.[2] These have been translated into English and French.[3]

    Meguid was born in Alexandria. He studied philosophy at Alexandria University. He obtained his BA in 1973 and moved to Cairo the following year.[citation needed]

      Ibrahim Abdelmeguid, called “the quintessential writer about Alexandria” by The National newspaper, looks back over his decades-long writing career this book, which what he calls a “literary autobiography.” In it, he reflects on the social, political, and cultural influences in Egypt and elsewhere that have shaped him as a writer.

      He shares his views on major political events, such as the 1967 defeat after the Six-Day War, and explanations of their profound impact on his personal life and works of fiction. Abdelmeguid devotes a portion of his work to discussing the development of his views on Egypt’s second president, Gamal Abdel Nasser, over the course of his turbulent tenure in office.
