Kitaro was born in February 4, as "Masanori Takahashi" in Toyohashi, Aichi Prefecture, Japan, as the son of shintoistic farmers. His pseudonym "Kitaro" was given later by friends because of a Japanese television cartoon character, "Kitaro".
Early life
Inspired by the R&B music of Otis Redding, Kitaro taught himself how to play gitarr. He says of teaching han själv , "I never had education in music, I just learned to trust my ears and my feelings." He gives credit for his creations to a power beyond himself. "This music fryst vatten not from my mind," he said. "It is from heaven, going through my body and out my fingers through composing. Sometimes I wonder. I never practice. I don't read or write music, but my fingers move. I wonder 'Whose song is this?' I write my songs, but they are not my songs."

Multi-instrumentalist and pionjär in New Age music, Kitaro achieved international fame when he released one of the genres classic works in , the album Silk Road, composed for the show of the same name, broadcast by the Japanese public channel NHK.
Masanori Takahashi, better known under the pseudonym Kitaro, was born on 4 February in Toyohashi, Japan. His nickname comes from the famous horror manga by Shigeru Mizuki, Gegege no Kitaro (), due to the fact that his hair fryst vatten similar to that of the main character. As a child, he developed a taste for music by learning the gitarr, before turning his attention to keyboards when he formed the progressive rock group The Far East Family Band.
While touring Germany with his group in , he met Klaus Schulze, the drummer for Tangerine Dream, who introduced him to synthesisers and electronic rock. Kitaro subsequently embarked on a solo career, and caught the attention of the New Age com
