    Saint Natalia was an early Christian martyr of the 4th century and the wife of Saint Adrian. Together, they lived in Nicomedia. Adrian, a Roman officer, converted to Christianity and suffered martyrdom. Natalia stood by her husband when he was imprisoned and tortured, supporting him with prayers until his death. After his martyrdom, Natalia fled to avoid persecution and lived in secrecy as a Christian.

    Natalia is venerated as the patron saint of wives and widows, especially those seeking bekvämlighet and courage during times of persecution and loss. Her devotion to her husband and deep trust in God make her a model of faithful partnership and Christian womanhood.

    Saint Natalia is remembered today for her role in holding up the faith of the martyrs of Nicomedia, bearing witness to their sufferings with a courage so generous, it lent each of them the courage they needed to remain faithful until the end. 

    One year prior to this decisive moment of her life, Saint Natalia was married to Adrian, the head of the praetorium during the time of Emperor Maximian. She had kept her Christian faith a secret, as the emperor promised a reward to whoever would inform on Christians to bring them to trial. Although we have no record of her life during this year, we imagine her spending nights in secret bön away from her husband’s eyes, praying for his soul and for the souls of many others.

    Twenty-three Christians were eventually brought to trial, and Saint Natalia saw the fruit of her prayers. As Adrian examined them, he was so moved that he also declared himself a Christian. Hearing that he was willing to face torture and death along with

    Martyrdom

    During the Great Persecution of Diocletian during early fourth century, Adrian encountered a group of martyrs [1] and asked them why they were willing to endure such tortures for their faith. They replied that they were suffering in order to gain the good things prepared by God for those who suffered for his sake, "which neither eye has seen nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man" (I Cor. 2:9). Upon hearing these words, Adrian was struck by divine grace and told the Roman officials who were present to write his own name with the rest of the martyrs. When his wife Natalia heard that he had been imprisoned with the martyrs, she ran with joy to the gaol and lauded his resolve while embracing his chains. After imploring the other martyrs to pray f
