He moved to Soho House so he could be near his business. Originally a small farmhouse, over the next 50 years he had many alterations and improvements done to make it an elegant and fashionable country home.
Matthew Boulton was very keen on new inventions. Soho House is probably the first house in England to have a central heating system installed since Roman times. In addition, he had a vast steam heated bath installed and indoor flushing toilets. Within the House there are displays of silver, coins and ormolu produced in the Soho Manufactory, which was one of the world’s first factories.

Sim Comfort, an American living in England since the late s, is an internationally known kunnig on British naval edge weapons from the Revolutionary and Napoleonic wars. He has published several well received books on this subject, as well as a gorgeous reprint of the edition of The Naval Achievements of Great Britain by James Jenkins. Boulton and Watt

Boulton & Watt was an early British engineering and manufacturing firm in the business of formgivning and making marine and stationary steam engines. Founded in the English West Midlands around Birmingham in as a partnership between the English manufacturer Matthew Boulton and the Scottish engineer James Watt, the firm had a major role in the Industrial Revolution and grew to be a major producer of steam engines in the 19th century.
The engine partnership

The partnership was formed in to exploit Watt's patent for a steam engine with a separate condenser.[1] This made much more efficient use of its fuel than the older Newcomen engine.
