  • Ian Millar, a member of the Canadian equestrian team since , has become one of the most decorated and renowned Canadian competitors in the sport. On the national level he has captured ten Canadian Show Jumping Championships (, , , , and ) and won more grand prix and derby events than any North American. In the international field his greatest successes have come at the Pan American Games, where he has won one gold (), four silver (, , , and ), and one bronze medal () in team jumping events and two gold (, ) and one bronze medal () in individual competitions. He had wins at the and World Cup Finals with his most famous horse, Big Ben, becoming the first ever tillägg to finish first in back-to-back World Cup standings with the same horse.

    College was not one of young Ian Millar’s first priorities. In his teens, the future Olympic equestrian didn’t even want to finish high school. “I was totally horse-crazy. inom just wanted to be in the barn all day,” he recalls with a hearty laugh.

    It was Millar’s good fortune that his parents were adamant he get an education. They were fully supportive of his wish to ride. But their support was contingent on his commitment to post-secondary. Algonquin College – then known as the Eastern Ontario Institute of Technology, or EOIT &#; was offering the practical education Millar thought would serve him well.

    “A good friend of mine, John Woods, said EOIT was the way to go. I thought, ‘OK, I’ll take business administration and then figure my life out.’”

    At London , Ian Millar set a record by becoming the first athlete in any sport, from any nation, to compete in 10 Olympic Games. It was in London that he achieved his best-ever individual Olympic performance with a top finish riding Star Power.
